McDonnell Douglas F-4G Wild Weasels 69-7561, 561st FS/35th FW, 1990

HA1982

The F-4G Phantom II first flew December 6, 1975 and entered service as the replacement for the F-105G. There was 116 F-4Es converted to the “G” variant which inherited most of the “E” features plus numerous additions. The F-4G was the last Phantom II model in active USAF duty when it was retired in 1995 ending over 30 years of service with the branch of the U.S. Military. The F-4G was replaced by the newer F-16C Fighting Falcon equipped with HARM and HARM targeting pods.

69-7561 was manufactured as an F-4E and was converted to an F-4G at Ogden ALC on July 18, 1980. It served with the 561st FS of the 35th FW and when Desert Storm came about in 1991 the only Wild Weasels available were the F-4Gs. The 35th FW was called upon to provide their F-4Gs. The F-4G was the last version of Phantom to see service before being sent to the ANG in Idaho and Kentucky. 69-7561 was sent to AMARC September 12, 1995 and destroyed on June 6, 2001.
