Formerly designated the 510th Fighter-Bomber Squadron the unit was re-designated the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron (Buzzards) on March 11 1959. On April 9, 1959 the 510th was activated at Clark AFB, the Philippines and assigned to the 405th FW equipped with the North American F-100D Supersabre. For the brief period from May 11 - June 8 1962 on the units first tour in SEA they were stationed at Takhli RTAFB, Thailand. The symbol on their aircraft tail is a white Speed Bird and while in Thailand they adopted the Thai Cobra symbol.
