The “Skyblazers” began in 1949 when 3 pilots flying from Malta to Germany decided to try some formation flying and later aerobatics. Eventually USAFE HQ ordered an aerobatic team to be formed and the team received a fourth aircraft. The maneuver that lived up to the name “Skyblazers” began in 1960 when their F-100s would do a gear down slow pass and then they would use the after-burner and suddenly climb leaving a 10 meter flaming trail. The team disbanded in 1964.
