Almost every type of MiG aircraft has made it into the hands of Western forces or countries friendly with Western forces by defecting pilots. On March 3, 1962 one such flight was a Chinese AF J-2 (MiG-15bis) that departed Zhejiang’s Lu-Qiao Airport in Mainland China. The pilot was Liu Chen-se of the 6th Division, 16th Group, 3rd Wing, 8th Squadron who flew his aircraft 1765 to Tao Yuan AB, Tao Yuan County, ROC. Some of the aircraft that pilots used to defect were test-flown and/or extensively examined by Western forces and returned to Mainland China. Some aircraft such as J-2 1765 were placed in museums and this aircraft can be seen at the Taiwan AF Museum at Gangshan.
