RAF No. 4 Squadron was formed in 1912 as part of the Royal Flying Corps. In the spring of 2003 they were sent as part of a 30 Harrier pool to take part in “Operation Telic”, the British name for “Iraqi Freedom”. They were stationed at Ahmed al Jaber Air Base and were tasked with close air support and reconnaissance duties. Another role the Harriers were given was the destruction of Iraqi mobile Scud launchers.
