In 1996 the Spanish Navy (Armada Española) received 8 new EAV-8B+ known as “Matador II+” in Spain. These are the Spanish version of the Harrier II Plus. The Matador II+’s were assembled in Spain by CASA and assigned to 9 Escuadrilla of the Aircraft Fleet of the Spanish Navy based in Rota (Cadiz) and operate from the aircraft carrier R11 “Principe de Asturias”. These aircraft are used in a fighter attack role. Matador II+ VA.1B-25 was built as Serial #165029 build # E14/SP-02 and given the ID 01-915. In 2003 serial numbers also began to be marked on the aircraft as well as the individual aircraft codes.
