The Air National Guard received the first of their McDonnell F-101Bs in November 1969. The New York ANG 136rd Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the 107th Fighter Interceptor Group didn’t receive the F-101B until 1971 and flew them until 1982 when they were replaced by the F-4 Phantom II. Formed as Fighter Squadron in 1946 the 136th became a FIS in 1971 and in 1980 became a TFS. From its creation in 1946 the 136rd always flew fighters but in 1994 they were given a new role of aerial refueling.
