Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA4814 Grumman E-2T Hawkeye 2505, ROCAF, Taiwan

The Northrop E-2 Hawkeye is an all-weather airborne early warning aircraft (AEW). The E-2 was a twin-turboprop developed in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s for the USN. The E-2 is a carrier- capable aircraft and has received major upgrades in their electronics for the E-2B and E-2C with the E-2C also receiving improved turbo-prop engines. The E-2 has been in production since the 1960’s making it the longest production run of any carrier based aircraft. The E-2C variant became operational in 1973.

In May 1993 Taiwan signed a contract for two E-2T Hawkeye (T for Taiwan) that were the equivalent of the E-2C. In 1999 the RoCAF approved the acquisition of two more E-2T. Some parts from four retired E-2Bs were used that wouldn’t affect their E-2C standards. The first two aircraft were received in October 2004 with 2505 and 2506 arriving on May 19, 2005. On May 26 both aircraft flew to their home base at Pingtung’s 439 Wing. January 1, 2000 the E-2Ts were reassigned to the Pingtung 2nd AEW Squadron 20th Group.
