The end of WWII saw the disestablishment of VF-2 and it wasn’t until 1972 when the squadron was re-established and began flying the F-14 in July 1973 reaching a full complement of 12 aircraft in 1974. In April 1975 VF-2 flew over Saigon during the U.S. evacuation of its personnel. VF-2 aircraft wear a red, white and blue band around the fuselage called the “Langley Stripe” referring to the stripes used on aircraft aboard the first USN aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1). F-14A 159625 went to AMARCS in 1991.
