In 1989 VF-24 “Fighting Renegades” onboard the USS Nimitz had been at sea and upon returning to San Diego in August the squadron began to re-equip with the F-14B making them the first Pacific Fleet Fighter Squadron to do this. Originally thought to be an interim aircraft before receiving the F-14D it turned out that a decision was made to end the F-14D acquisitions and equip Pacific Fleet squadrons with F-14As and remaining F-14Ds then move all F-14Bs to the Atlantic Fleet. This aircraft is on display at the Estrella Warbird Museum.
