The Russian Government sent Sukhoi Su-35S “Flanker E” aircraft belonging to the 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment, 303rd Guards Composite Air Division to Latakia, Syria in an effort to support President al-Assad’s government. One of the Su-35S was Red 06 RF-95816 that was delivered to Russian Forces in November 2015. Russia also saw this deployment as a great opportunity to field test the Su-35S under combat conditions as well as giving the crews valuable training and increase demand for the aircraft from foreign buyers.
