Lieutenant-Colonel Oleg Peshkov was a Russian pilot that was killed on November 24, 2015 while flying his Su-24 bomber from a Syrian airbase. The aircraft was shot down by a Turkish AF F-16 when Turkey claimed the Su-24 violated their airspace. The Navigator Konstantin Murakhtin survived and was rescued. Peshkov was posthumously awarded the Gold Star of Hero of the Russian Federation. It is said Peshkov was killed by ground fire as he parachuted. To honor Peshkov Su-34 10 Red had his name applied.
