In 1988 and 1989 20 MiG-29As and 4 MiG-29UBs entered service with the East German Air Force (Luftstreitkräfte der Nationalen Volksarmee; LSK). Soon after the fall of the Berlin Wall these aircraft became part of the German Luftwaffe until 2003 when all were sold to Poland for one Euro each. While in service with East Germany MiG-29A c/n 2960525114/3503 wore Red 661, with the Luftwaffe it wore 29+06 and with Poland it wore 4107. During the time 29+06 was with the Luftwaffe it was loaned to the U.S. for two years.
