The Fw-190A-6 was designed to be used mostly for ground attacks on the Eastern Front and was given four 20mm cannons in the wings as well as two machine guns. Along with a new light-weight wing the Fw-190A-6 was a deadly aircraft. The Fw-190A-6 was also designed to allow for maximum Ruestsaetze (field modifications). Over 1,000 of this variant were sent to the Eastern Front and eventually replaced the now obsolete Ju-87 Stuka and were used right to the end of WWII.

Adolf “Dolfie” Galland joined the Luftwaffe in 1934 and in 1940 became a fighter pilot and achieved Ace status during the Battle of France. In late 1941 at age 29 he had a score of 96 victories and was appointed General der Jagdfliereg and forbidden to fly combat missions. In 1944 Galland made several unauthorized combat sorties to see how effective new tactics were. His Fw-190A-6 didn’t have a lot of markings other than a yellow lower cowling, a white double chevron and white 2. Galland’s final victory total was 104 aircraft.
