Germany had approximately 1,700 trucks in North Africa with the majority falling into the medium class. The greatest portion of the medium class vehicles were either Krupp Protze or the Opel Blitz. The trucks were used by the artillery, also as troop carriers and with supply and service units. As part of the DAK (Deutsches Afrika Korps) the legendary 21st Panzer Division fought in all the major battles of the North Africa campaign. Rommel’s advance toward Egypt depended heavily on being re-supplied by these vehicles.
