The 30th Infantry Division was formed on October 1, 1936. The 30th Infantry fought on the Eastern Front with Army Group North from 1941 until the end of the war. The division fought in the Battle of Dvinsk and was encircled at Demyansk for more than one year. This was a bloody battle and stretched the Sanitatsabteilung (medical detachment) to the limit trying to transport the wounded to field hospitals. The division finally surrendered in the Courland Pocket on May 8, 1945.
