From February 8 1943 until March 17, 1943 the Soviet and German forces fought for control of the city of Kharkov. The Soviets had managed to drive the Germans out of the city but at a cost of several Soviet divisions. The Germans began to push back but where held at a stand still under Kampfgruppe Peiper’s tanks broke through. By March 17 the fighting was over and German soldiers went through hospitals killing wounded Soviet soldiers and officers.
