The 15th Panzer Division was formed in late 1940 and went to Libya in February 1941. The 15 Pz.Div. fought during Operations Battleaxe, Crusader, the Battles of Gazala and El Alamein. The 15 Pz.Div. and the rest of the Axis forces surrendered on May 13, 1943. Some remnants of the 15 Pz.Div. managed to escape to Sicily and became part of the new 15th Panzergrenadier Division. They eventually found themselves on the Western Front where they surrendered to the British at wars end.
