In the East Prussian city of Königsberg the German forces had devised a formidable stronghold. Beginning on January 9, 1945 until April 6, 1945 the German forces held out even though they had been surrounded and cut off from any help from out side the city. For 10 long weeks Soviet aircraft roamed the skies unopposed and Soviet tanks and troops slowly fought their way into the city. ISU-152 #65 with the inscription “Liberated Kirovskiy” was one of the Assault Guns used to destroy enemy fortifications and armor.
