The Battle of Long Tan took place in the late afternoon of 18 August 1966 in a rubber plantation near the village of Long Tan, South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The battle was fought by 108 ANZACS against a Viet Cong (North Vietnamese) force estimated between 1,500 and 2,500. Two RAAF Iroquois helicopters, A2-1020 and A2- 1022 from 9 Sqn RAAF visiting Nui Dat at the time and were tasked to deliver ammunition to the battle area. A2-1020 is on display at the RAAF Museum Point Cook, near Melbourne.
