Space Shuttle "Discovery" OV-103, October 29, 1998

Space Shuttle Discovery made its first launch on August 30, 1984 and completed its final launch on February 24, 2011 after 39 trips to space. On October 29, 1998 Discovery OV-103 blasted off on one of the most notable shuttle missions, it carried ex-astronaut Senator John Glenn and the first Spanish astronaut Pedro Duque. The objectives were to launch and retrieve satellites as well study the effects of weightlessness on the human body. During the nine day mission they orbited earth 134 times and traveled 3.6 million miles.
